REVIEW:
Robert d' Arbrissel (1045-1116) the founder of Fontevraud
Breton of origin it runs away from Rennes where it is compromised in malpractices which encircled the election of the new bishop of Rennes. In Paris he follows his studies. Gregorian reform makes him become aware of its past errors. He wants to help the others to become aware of theirs. It backs up the new bishop of Rennes in the installation of reforms. On the death of the bishop he leaves towards Angers where he takes back his studies. Two years later it melts in the forest of Craon a hermitage. There it is obvious a very hard life, leading against itself a hard battle. It melts an abbey of regular canons in Roë in Mayennne He preaches crusade in Anjou, and motivates those who cannot leave has enter orders. Travelling preacher, his word is hot and sound it preaches example. It is followed by troops " the poor people of Christ " at least heterogeneous constituted by men and by women married but repudiated or humiliated by common law wives, by spouses of priests, by prostitutes. His keeping is strange, a written contemporary of him: " A hair shirt on the skin, dressed in dress employed and with a hole, bare at the mi-leg, the beard not cultivated, hair shaved on the forehead, walking around bare-footed among the crowd... ". By 1101, it settles in Fontevraud, near Saumur where he melts this monastery. His brothers priests will ask him to get dressed in another way. It is there that it will understand the necessity to separate sexes in the monastic life, soon giving preponderance to the women, what will make the originality of its foundation. Robert will not be either beatified, or canonized, his life having left too many zones of shades
